The Blue River, December 2009

Guess?

Yes it’s another very relaxing place outside Nouméa about 2 hours driving away. Betsy’s family drove us around in their friend’s car they could borrow for the week end.

The landscape is stoning. Usually the water level is much higher. At the end of it, is a Dam who produces the electricity for the entire city of Nouméa and neighborhood, concentrating 85% of the population of la Grande Terre.

Talking to the guardian of the park, one rainfall and the level comes up to normal again.

One side of the park can be accessed with the car and there is another part that can only be accessed by foot, bicycle or shuttle. Camping grounds are available if you want to spend the night there.

We found a nice place in the shade and had a cool picnic.

The fauna is much diversified and it was quite a job to get some nice pictures.
