Centre culturel de Tjibaou, December 2009

This center relates about Kanak culture. It was designed by Enzo Piano and named after Jean-Marie Tjibaou who was the leader from the FLNKS (Front de Liberation Nationale Kanak et Socialiste).

He was murdered in 1989 on Ouvea as he was attending a reconciliation ceremony to end a 12 month of mourning for the 19 Kanaks killed at Gossanah. The center is built on Tina Peninsula.

There is a track going around the center telling about Kanaks belief.
