It has been a long time since we haven’t made a report. The only excuse I have is that it is difficult to think and write in English on a French territory, on the other side Internet is a catastrophe, slow and dam expensive.
Wednesday November 4th, we made the clearance in Nouméa at the visitor’s pontoon. The first time I was in NC in 2000, the first 24 hours were free of charge. Today you pay as you arrive.
The only advantage is that the marina’s office organizes for you the officials. You can anchor outside and come ashore and visit the officials by yourself, it’s a long way to go.
First thing we did was to go to the bakery and buy a fresh baguette. It was a long time that we didn’t eat crispy bread.
A part from the nickel extraction, New Caledonia is a gastronomic foot print in the Pacific Ocean.
Next day we went to the Tannhaüser restaurant and ordered “une choucroute royale”. It was delicious, and so big that we came home with a doggy bag that gave us two extra meals.

Couple of days later we moved to the anchorage place, and were lucky to pick up a mooring.
We heard about a Thai community and joined them on one of their meeting.
We met Thierry and Thicha. One weekend they drove us around Nouméa.
At the market we also met Kristi. She drives a school bus during the week and sells shoes on the market on week ends.
Thierry drove us first to Kuendu Bay. The place has a nice resort with bungalows over the water.
It can also be accessed by boat but not to close to shore because it’s shallow.

From Fort de Tereka there is a nice point of view of Nouméa.
After, we went up to Mont Koghi. Being quite in altitude, the air is fresh and the perfumes of the pines trees enhance the feeling.
Away from the crowded traffic birds songs were making this place feel like heaven.
